DEATH, LOVE AND TIME

An online workshop with Hillary Rodrigues
Aug 26-28, 2022 (Fri – Sun: 10 am PT / 1 pm ET)

Almost all of us have had to confront the harsh reality of death at some point in our lives. We may be reminded of our mortality through the passing of our loved ones, or in our own close encounters with death. For most of us the prospect of death is accompanied by the fear of non-existence, and its reality is shrouded in grief. These unpleasant and painful emotional states may cause us to avoid giving death the attention it demands.

In this workshop we shall inquire together into the relationship between death, love and time, using some distinctive teachings offered by Krishnamurti. Krishnamurti urges us to invite death into our lives, rather than escaping or avoiding it. By doing so, he suggests that we might come upon a totally different perspective on death, in which its profound relationship to love, psychological time, fear, and life are understood. These ideas are encapsulated in the following passage:

Living is dying. And love is essentially dying to the ‘me’. Love is not the things thought has said is love – sex, pleasure, and all that. Dying to time is love. So, living, love and death are one thing, not divisive, not separated, not divorced, not in the field of time, but a completely living, moving thing, indivisible. And that is immortal.
J.Krishnamurti

Friday:  What do we conventionally mean by death and dying? How does it affect us? How do we cope with the prospect of non-existence?

Saturday: What is the relationship between death and psychological time?

Sunday: How might life, love, time, and death be intimately related?

The spirit behind our inquiry is to observe the movement of our own thoughts and feelings, in relationship to the ideas and words shared in our discussions. As such, all sessions are “meditative” opportunities for self-inquiry and realization.
