Self-Awareness and Self-Transformation
SELF-AWARENESS AND SELF-TRANSFORMATION
A public talk and weekend retreat with Dr. Ravi Ravindra
April 12-14, 2019 (Fri. 7 pm – Sun. 4:30 pm)
All serious teachings emphasize the importance of a radical transformation of the whole of one’s being in order to come to the Truth. A fundamental requirement for the necessary transformation is an impartial and deep self-inquiry, not so much to improve oneself while still remaining self-centred, but more to allow the awareness of the self naturally to lead to freedom from the self. Awareness is the mechanism of transformation. This is the reason self-inquiry is so much emphasized by Krishnamurti, and why buddhi yoga, the yoga of awareness, is the main yoga taught by Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita. We will explore these topics during the weekend seminar.
Born and educated in India before moving to Canada, Ravi Ravindra holds master’s degrees in technology, physics, and philosophy and a Ph.D. in physics. He is currently professor emeritus at Dalhousie University in Halifax, where he was professor and chair of comparative religion and adjunct professor of physics. His books include Science and the Sacred, Krishnamurti: Two Birds on One Tree, and Whispers from the Other Shore. He lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Complementary activities include guided meditations, awareness-enhancing exercises and the opportunity for reflection and dialogue.
