THIS LIGHT IN ONESELF: TRUE MEDITATION
Online Workshop with Cynthia Overweg
February 9 – 11, 2024 (Fri – Sun: 11 AM – 12: 30 PM, Pacific Time)
“The very investigation to find out what it means to be a light to oneself is part of meditation…This light can only come to you when you understand what you are.”
J. Krishnamurti
Throughout his life, Krishnamurti stressed the importance of looking inward to find out what it means to be “a light to oneself.” Central to this looking inward is the observation of the activities of the self without judgment. This moment-to-moment attention or watchfulness is what he referred to as true or real meditation.
Our workshop is an inquiry into the possibility of being a light to oneself. Krishnamurti expressed it this way: “It would be immensely worthwhile to see for each one of us if we could be a light to ourselves … when you are a light to yourself, you are a light to the world.” In different ways, he continually emphasized the urgency of co-creating a new consciousness if we are ever to transcend our internal and external divisions and preserve the sustainability of our planet. And he insisted that we each have a role to play.
In a mutually supportive atmosphere of friendship, our workshop will explore Krishnamurti’s insights into the state of being where there is “a light that has no dependence on another and that is completely free.” Each 90 minute session includes a presentation, intervals of meditative silence, body relaxation and sacred music. There will also be time for comments and questions. Our intention is to be together “live” online during each session, but recordings will be available to registered participants. This workshop is based on Krishnamurti’s book: This Light in Oneself: True Meditation.
With the accelerating violence and growing instability in today’s world, and the mind-made obstacles to “this light in oneself,” the urgency of finding it is greater than ever.
Our Facilitator:
Cynthia Overweg has been facilitating retreats, workshops and meditative inquiry for over 25 years. Her interest in Krishnamurti’s teachings began in the early 1990’s when she read Krishnamurti’s journals and was captivated by the way he intertwined his love of the natural world with searing insights into the conditioned mind. Her own inner search took on a deeper significance when she was a photojournalist during the Balkan War and witnessed firsthand the shattering impact that war has on children. Cynthia is the author of Silent Awareness: The Revelation That Changes Everything and the forthcoming book, Awareness Meditations. Please visit www.cynthiaoverweg.com for more information.
Three 90 minute Zoom meetings.
Recordings will be made available, on request, to registrants unable to attend a session.
