Choiceless Awareness

Online series with Cynthia Overweg
Second Saturdays of the month (March – June)*, 10:30 am PT/ 1:30 pm ET/ 19:30 CET

“Through awareness, through choiceless observation ― which is possible only when in the mind there is space to observe ― every form of conditioning is dissolved.”

J. Krishnamurti

This new monthly series is based on Krishnamurti’s insights into that he called “choiceless awareness”, which he sees as necessary if we are to understand ourselves and the world we’ve co-created — if there is to be a transformation in the individual, and thus society.

He suggests that in silent self-observation (choiceless awareness) without liking or disliking, judgment, opinion, condemnation, or praise, we can silently see the mind’s subterfuge mirrored back to us in relationship — in all relationships. We can see what we are and at the same time not condemn what we see in ourselves and others.  And he suggests this can “dissolve” our conditioning.  This internal observation of the movements of “me” quiets the mind and opens space for silence to emerge.

Each 90 minute gathering is a meditative exploration of the awareness that is not bound by time. Interludes of quietude and sacred music are included, as well as time for questions and discussion. Attend one session or the whole series.

MARCH 11:  APPROACHING “CHOICELESS AWARENESS.”

We make dozens of choices each day, but must we always choose? What is awareness without choice? How do we approach “choiceless awareness” without getting entangled in language?

APRIL 8:  AWARENESS AND TRANSFORMATION

It has been said that wisdom begins to blossom when we consistently question all of our assumptions and beliefs. Can our deeply rooted identification with the self, which includes image-making and the naming of everyone and everything, actually be transformed?

MAY 13:  THE NECESSITY OF ATTENTION, ENERGY AND RELAXATION.

Do we have the inner resources that make it possible to perceive the dynamic and creative movement of life without choosing one thing over another? Krishnamurti asked: “How is the individual to have abundant energy rightly directed so that his life will have expansive and profound significance?”

JUNE 10:  THE INNER QUEST*

What are we really seeking? Is there ever an end to the search? Krishnamurti often said that as long as there is a seeker, there is no freedom. It is in the act of seeing through the misconceptions of the conditioned mind that the search can end. Choiceless awareness is revealed, not found.
