DOING WITHOUT DOING: KRISHNAMURTI AND TRANSFORMATION

DOING WITHOUT DOING – KRISHNAMURTI AND TRANSFORMATION
An online yoga workshop with Oda Lindner
May 21-23, 2021   (Fri-Sun:  10 am PT / 1 pm ET)

“If you begin to understand what you are without trying to change it, then what you are undergoes a transformation.”

J. Krishnamurti

Krishnamurti often points to the fact that we try to create change while bringing to it the load of previous experience and ingrained patterns. We create the new by introducing goals that are informed by the old. True change, he says, cannot come the past, from that which has been; it has to emerge out of that which is goal-less and empty.

“There is the unknowable, something far beyond the mind, beyond all thought. But you cannot possibly approach it with all your knowledge and memories, with the scars of experience, the weight of anxiety, guilt, fear. And you cannot get rid of these things by any effort whatsoever. You can be free of them only by listening to every thought and every feeling without trying to interpret what you hear; just listen, just observe and be attentive out of emptiness”.                                        J. Krishnamurti

In this workshop we will bring the attitude of open listening to our ways of moving and being. The ‘scars of experience’ extend not just to the mind but can be found in the whole system. Rather than ‘getting rid’ of these scars we will see if we can look at them with an attentive observing and sensing that does not immediately interpret what is seen or felt. This listening is in many ways a doing without doing.

Through slow movement, mindful meditation and an openness without projection we can perhaps bring forth a transformation in our system that is neither based on willful changes nor on goal-oriented techniques. It will be an experiment, but we will see how this attentive listening can actually be applied to our minds, our bodies and our ways of being and moving.
