August 23-25, 2019 (Fri. 7 pm – Sun. 4:30 pm)

Hillary Rodrigues (University of Lethbridge) is a professor of Eastern religious traditions, particularly Hindu and Buddhist philosophies and cultures. A former teacher and administrator at the Krishnamurti school that once existed at the site of the Krishnamurti Educational Centre of Canada, he has published books and articles on aspects of Krishnamurti’s thought. Hillary has given invited presentations on Krishnamurti’s teachings in Europe, Canada, the United States, Mexico, and India. His books include Krishnamurti’s Insight(Pilgrims) and Introducing Hinduism(Routledge).

Note: This is not an academic workshop, but an opportunity to inquire deeply into particular issues in a personal and holistic way with others in a peaceful and stunningly beautiful setting.

PUBLIC TALK

There will be an introductory talk and Q&A session on Friday evening, August 23 at 7:30 pm, on the overall theme of the weekend retreat. This talk will be held at the Centre and is open to the public. Suggested donation (to KECC): $15. Interested persons can still register then for the retreat as day commuters (without meals).

Most of us are familiar with the energetic agitation caused by our yearnings for what we desire, or to avoid or change what we find unpleasant (personally, religiously, politically, and so on). But is there some other source of energy that moves within us, which can address and even resolve our many conflicts? The weekend retreat will provide a venue for private and collective inquiry primarily into the nature of the energy that arises when we are in conflict. This passage from Krishnamurti will serve as a springboard for our weekend inquiry.

“In most of us there is very little passion. We may be lustful, we may be longing for something, we may be wanting to escape from something, and all this does give one a certain intensity. But unless we awaken and feel our way into this flame of passion without a cause, we shall not be able to understand that which we call sorrow. To understand something you must have passion, the intensity of complete attention. Where there is the passion for something, which produces contradiction, conflict, this pure flame of passion cannot be; and this pure flame of passion must exist in order to end sorrow, dissipate it completely.”
