WISDOM IN A WORLD ON FIRE
Wisdom in a World on Fire: The Relevance of Krishnamurti’s Teachings in our Time
A workshop with Javier Gomez Rodriguez
May 20-22, 2022 (Fri – Sun: 10 am PT / 1 pm ET / 19:00 CET)
Ours is an unprecedented time of crisis. Due to the increasing menace of climate change, the image of a world on fire is no longer a mere metaphor but a tragic fact. And no sooner do we come out of a global pandemic than we are plunged into a new war. Our violence towards nature and towards each other is the real source of this unending conflagration. Historically, this destructiveness appears to be our lot generation after generation, and as human beings we seem to find it difficult to step out of that vicious cycle, both collectively and in our own personal lives. Some may accept it as an inevitable fact of life, while many of us consider that this is not at all natural or inevitable. On the contrary, it is totally man-made and has its roots in our ignorance of ourselves. And can we not wise up to this fact and change it, thus giving peace and goodness a chance?
The way of wisdom that Krishnamurti proposes begins with a close observation of the facts of our existence and their inner causes and deeper implications. Wisdom is not a separate realm but begins in the close attention to our daily lives. So we will take this same approach in our examination of the relevance of such wisdom as Krishnamurti reflected in his teachings to meeting the outer, relational and inner challenges we face at this critical time. We will approach this exploration in the following thematic sessions:
2. Life is Relationship: an exploration of relationship as the very nucleus of our existence. Why is relationship so difficult, fragile, riddled with conflict. The problem of images and the search for security through identity. What is the meaning of love and the essence of cooperation.
3. The Quest for Wholeness: an examination of the inner causes of fragmentation and the potential awakening of a quality of freedom and integrity through self-knowledge. What is involved in the inner journey as the unfolding of goodness in our lives?
