Inquiry with Javier Gomez Rodriguez, October 22, 2026
We met at the Pavilion for a Thursday meeting. Javier introduced the topic “What Is Relationship?” drawing on Krishnamurti’s teachings. He suggested that life is relationship and that our relationships shape both who we are and the world we create. Our psychological identity is formed through past experiences, conditioning, and images of ourselves and others, which can become barriers to genuine connection.
The discussion turned to family relationships and how childhood experiences, inherited patterns, and fixed identities influence the way we relate to others. Participants shared how seeing their parents as people, rather than only through the roles of parent and child, helped them develop greater acceptance and understanding. The importance of allowing others to be as they are, without trying to fix or control them, emerged as a recurring theme.
Javier also explored how attachment, possession, and the desire for security can turn relationships into structures of power and mutual convenience. We may believe we are attached to another person, when in fact we are attached to an image of them that fits our expectations. Relationship can serve as a mirror, revealing our fears, insecurities, and hidden divisions, if we are willing to look without immediately judging or suppressing what we see.
The conversation further examined the relationship between thought, memory, and awareness. While thought is necessary for practical life, it can also project the past onto the present, creating psychological conflict and separation. Participants questioned whether it is possible to meet others and ourselves with fresh eyes.
The meeting concluded by returning to the question of peace. Although we may all want harmony, we often want it on our own terms, making others responsible for our unhappiness. Javier invited us to observe how the self contributes to division and to recognise that understanding relationship begins with awareness of our own conditioning and reactions.
