Inquiry with Javier Gomez Rodriguez, October 25, 2026
We met in the Swanwick Centre main house meeting room to continue exploring relationships as a mirror for self-knowledge. Javier noted that the previous dialogue had “only got halfway” and invited the group to continue the inquiry without rushing towards conclusions.
The discussion explored how relationships reveal our patterns of conflict, shame, and fear. Javier encouraged participants to look beyond blaming others and ask: “What does it show about me?” Rather than pursuing ideals, he emphasized observing what is actually happening and discovering the purpose behind our reactions.
The group examined how we perpetuate inner conflict by fighting unwanted feelings and behaviours. Javier repeatedly brought the inquiry back to the present: “What is the impediment to peace? Is here.” This shifted attention from seeking solutions in the future to understanding the patterns operating now.
Personal stories illustrated how family conflicts can soften through deeper listening and a willingness to see beyond another person’s behaviour. One participant described reconciling with an older sister after recognizing the burdens she had carried and expressing genuine appreciation for her intentions, without denying the hurt she had caused.
Throughout the dialogue, Javier connected personal experiences to the wider inquiry, asked clarifying questions, and highlighted moments that opened new perspectives. Rather than offering answers or a method to follow, he helped participants examine their assumptions together. The conversation suggested that reconciliation becomes possible when we listen attentively, acknowledge complexity, and allow understanding to emerge without forcing it.
